MDA to present at NOAA Emerging Technologies Workshop

MDA's senior scientist, Dr. Francois Smith, has been selected to speak at the 2017 National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Emerging Technologies Workshop being held August 22 – 23 at the NOAA Center for Weather and Climate Prediction (NCWCP) in College Park, MD. The workshop brings together academia, industry, and other federal agencies to identify new environmental observing capabilities and applications for synthesizing environmental information which have the potential for improving NOAA services and enhancing organizational efficiencies.

Dr. Smith’s discussion will detail a MDA technique utilizing MDA’s patented change detection algorithm known as “Cross-Correlation Analysis” (CCA).  This solution currently supports NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management (OCM), Coastal Change Analysis Program (C-CAP) by monitoring changes in the coastal portion of the United States. The C-CAP land cover and land cover change products are being used to assess urban growth, map and inventory wetlands, delineate wildlife habitat, monitor changes in land cover over time, and educate coastal communities and managers in causes, effects, and extent of changes within their areas of interest.
